Okay, hear me out, these pretzel spider webs are officially the cutest (and easiest) Halloween treat you'll make this season. They're super fun to make, snackable, and the perfect kind of "spooky" DIY project that gives all the Charlotte's Web energy.

My favorite part about this recipe is the chocolate, because duh, I love chocolate, but when it's Navitas Organics semi-sweet cacao wafers, you know it's going to be amazing. The chocolate melts evenly, leaving a rich, silky coating on the pretzels. The adults making these may have to battle for the last spider web, just saying...

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  1. Break the pretzel sticks in half so that they webs are not too large. I tested this twice and each time the webs were too big with the sticks as is, so breaking them in half is a lot easier to work with.
  2. Use a spoon to drizzle, NOT a piping bag. In my first the test the chocolate was literally everywhere. Unless you want to be on hands and knees mopping melting chocolate, just use a spoon and drizzle around the pretzels.
  3. Add a little olive or avocado oil to the chocolate to make it even more luxe and shiny.
  4. Give the chocolate plenty of time to set. There are no fillers or additives to the cacao wafers I used here, so if the chocolate is left out, it will start to melt. At least an hour of chill time is perfect.

The Main Ingredients

  1. Cacao Wafers - Navitas Organics semi-sweet cacao wafers are perfect for this recipe as they taste incredible, melt evenly with a velvety texture. These wafers are fair-trade, single-origin 60% cacao sweetened with coconut sugar.
  2. Cacao Nibs - The cacao nibs are used for the eyes of the spider, and also add more texture to the chocolate pretzel spider webs.
  3. Oil - A little oil added into the wafers as they melt help give a more luxe look and shine.
  4. Mini Pretzel Sticks - Thin, small, and straight, these pretzel sticks will resemble a perfect spider web with the chocolate melted and drizzled on them.

Recipe Swaps and Subsitutions

  • Swap out the pretzels for gluten-free pretzels.
  • If you'd like to use bittersweet cacao wafers, that's a great swap too.
  • Substitute the cacao nibs for sprinkles or candy eyes.
Eight mini pretzel sticks shaped in a spider web on parchment paper.

Step 1: Assemble 8 broken mini pretzel sticks so that the ends of them are touching in the middle on parchment paper.

Melted chocolate in a medium glass bowl.

Step 2: Melt the chocolate in a double-boiler (tempered glass bowl on top of a boiling pot of water), then add the avocado oil and mix to combine.

Melted chocolate drizzled over broken mini pretzel sticks with cacao nibs in the middle on parchment paper.

Step 3: Secure the pretzels with a teaspoon of melted chocolate right into the middle of the pretzels. Scoop the chocolate using a teaspoon, then drizzle the chocolate in a circular motion around the pretzel sticks creating a "web" effect. Sprinkle the cacao nibs in the middle of the web creating the spider eyes, then chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours. Once set, carefully lift the spider webs from the parchment paper using a spatula. Decorate the middle of the spider web by making a few spider eyes with glittery white icing and serve.

Pretzel Spider Webs FAQs

How can I make these pretzel spiders gluten free?

The cacao wafers and cacao nibs are naturally gluten free, so just switch out the pretzels for your favorite gluten-free brand.

What's the best way to store these chocolate webs?

I would suggest storing them flat in a plastic food storage bag in the fridge for up to a week. This means it's great to prep ahead of Halloween!

Can I decorate the spider pretzel webs with other things?

Yes! Feel free to use candy eyes, green glitter for ooze, or halloween-colored sprinkles.
