Trusted Tips and Key Reminders

  1. Have everything prepped ahead of time! Unwrap the rice krispie treats, pour out the desired amount of sprinkles, and snip the black icing so that as the chocolate melts, you're ready to dip and assemble.
  2. Use a tempered glass bowl over a boiling pot of water to melt the chocolate, called the double boiler method. This helps to melt the green chocolate evenly AND keeps it from hardening quickly.
  3. Let the rice krispie treats set a little before dipping into the sprinkles. My first go round of these, the sprinkles slipped right off because the chocolate was still too wet.

The Main Ingredients

Ingredients to make halloween frankenstein rice krispie treats.
  1. Melting Chocolate - The quality of the chocolate does matter here, as I do not recommend using chocolate chips. I like using these dark green melting chocolate wafers for dipping the rice krispie treats into.
  2. Rice Krispie Treats - The classic treat is perfect for this, as I did not intend on making homemade rice krispie treats. It's fine if you want to, but the store-bought version makes this a lot easier to do.
  3. Chocolate Sprinkles - I used the chocolate sprinkles to make hair at the top of the rice krispie treat, but you could also just use regular melted chocolate.
  4. Candy Eyeballs - I found these spooky candy eyeballs on a whim at the store, but you can always make the eyes or find whatever type of eyeballs you can. If they are not edible, remove before eating (please).
  5. Icing - While I ended up not using the green or sparkly white, I like the option of making these fun and different! I did use the black writing icing to make the stitches.

How to make frankenstein rice krispies

Green melted chocolate in a large glass bowl over a small pot of boiling water.

Step 1: Place a medium glass and TEMPERED bowl on top of a medium pot of water, then bring to a boil. Add the melting chocolate wafers, then stir until they are fully melted. Once melted, remove from the heat but keep on top of the pot of water.

Step 2: Dip the unwrapped rice krispie treat into the green melted chocolate halfway, then lay on a cooling rack for a few minutes. Once the chocolate has set for a little while (maybe 5-10 minutes tops), dip into the sprinkles to make "hair". Add the candy eyes and set in the fridge for up to one to two hours. Once fully set, remove, and make the stitches using the black icing.

Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats FAQs

How do I store these rice krispies?

I would suggest setting the rice krispies in the fridge or in an area of the house that will not melt the chocolate. You can individually wrap them or carefully place in a plastic food storage bag.

What else can I add to the rice krispies to make them more, spooky?

You can make furrowed slanted lines as eyebrows or even add some red icing for blood! If you have malt balls you can stick them to the sides of the frankenstein head as bolts.

Can I use chocolate chips to melt?

You can, but they won't stay melted for too long. They are not actually intended to fully melt, which is why melting chocolate wafers is the way I suggest.
