Dinner does not need to be the same chicken cutlet and veg over and over again. That's why you've got to make these air fryer cheeseburger egg rolls. They are packed with classic cheeseburger flavor wrapped up in a crispy wonton wrapper, then tossed in the air fryer. This recipe gives all the playful vibes, but incredibly doable, even on a busy weeknight.

You just can't beat cheeseburger flavors, and while I love making my one pot creamy cheeseburger pasta, or even my greek chicken burgers with tzatziki, there's something really fun and reactive about making these cheeseburger egg rolls for dinner, a fun lunch, or as an appetizer.

Trusted Tips and Key Reminders
- Leave space in the air fryer: Do not place the egg rolls too close together as this prevents even airflow, which means they will not get as crispy. Feel free to cook the egg rolls in batches if needed.
- Seal the edges well: If the edges are not properly sealed with egg wash or simple water, they can open up while cooking and the filling will spill out.
- Roll with caution: Be careful when using the wonton wrappers as they are delicate and can fall apart if manipulated too much.
- Add enough cheese: The cheeseburger egg rolls should be cheesy on the inside, so if you need more cheese, add a pinch or two at a time (approximately 1-2 tablespoon more) until you reach the desired creaminess.
The Main Ingredients

- Ground Beef: To bring out that classic cheeseburger flavor, ground beef is the base of the filling. I like to buy grass fed ground beef (which can be found at most grocery stores) as there is a higher fat content which makes the meat extra flavorful and juicy.
- Butter: Using butter richness and helps cook the onions so they soften and develop flavor. It also doesn't make the whole dish oily.
- Onion: Adding in a very finely diced onion brings a mild sweetness and texture that balances the beef and the cheese. Plus, what's a cheeseburger without onions on top? (think: White Castle style)
- Dill Relish: I loved using a savory relish like this dill version as it adds a tangy, slightly sweet bite that mimics traditional burger toppings.
- Paprika: Adds a subtle smoky flavor and enhances the overall seasoning.
- Garlic Powder: Boosts the savory flavor of the beef without needing fresh garlic.
- Monterey Jack Cheese: Melts smoothly and creates a creamy, cheesy filling.
- Wonton Wrappers: Hold the filling together and crisp up nicely in the air fryer.
- Whisked Egg: Helps seal the wrappers so the egg rolls stay closed while cooking.

Recipe Swaps and Substitutions
- You can easily use ground chicken, ground turkey, ground sausage, or a plant-based meat alternative if you don't want to use ground beef.
- Use your favorite dairy-free cheese instead of the Monterey jack cheese.
- Omit the dill relish and add in a sweet relish if you prefer that flavor, or simply dice up some bread and butter or dill pickles.
How to make cheeseburger egg rolls in air fryer

Step 1: In a large frying pan, add a tablespoon of butter to melt, then add the finely diced onions to sauté until fragrant and softened. Add the ground beef, and cook until halfway browned. Add in the garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper, then brown until fully cooked.

Step 2: Once fully cooked, add in the dill relish, then toss to combine.

Step 3: Finally, add in the cup of shredded Monterey jack cheese, and fold in the cheese to allow it to melt into the ground beef.

Step 4: Preheat the air fryer to 375º. Prepare the wonton wrappers by laying flat on a surface, then adding 1-2 scoops of the cheeseburger mixture into the center of the wrapper.

Step 5: Fold one end inward, then fold the sides of the wonton wrapper into the meat mixture. Roll to the remaining end of the wrapper, and seal with a little water. Repeat until all the cheeseburger mixture has been used.
Brush a whisked egg on top of each of the egg rolls before air frying. Place the egg rolls into the air fryer, seam side down. Air fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy on the exterior.

Step 6: For the dipping sauce: Mix together the mayonnaise, relish, ketchup, mustard, and lemon juice until fully combined.
Mistakes I've Made (to avoid!)
- Forgetting to brush with the whisked egg: A light coating of the egg wash helps the wrappers crisp up and turn golden brown. This also doubles as a seal for the ends of the wonton wrapper to close them up prior to air frying.
- Rolling too loosely: I've tried a few different times and realized that if I roll too loosely, the egg rolls can fall apart or cook unevenly, so keep them snug without tearing the wrapper.
- Overfilling the wrappers: It is tempting to add a lot of the cheeseburger mixture, but that will cause the egg rolls to rip and fall apart. Trust me, I dealt with this a few times in my tests before learning to not add too much. You can overstuff my taco zucchini boats, but do not attempt with egg rolls.

Cheeseburger Air Fryer Egg Rolls FAQs
I would not recommend using the microwave as this will make the egg rolls soggy. In order to maintain the crisp factor, reheat in the toaster or the oven for 10-15 minutes at 350º, similar to how I suggest reheating my pan fried crispy chicken cutlets.
Yes, storing egg rolls in a container is fine for the fridge. You can also wrap them in aluminum foil and use the foil to line a baking sheet when reheating.
If you want to add some heat, throw in a half a teaspoon of red pepper flakes. To add more salty flavor, throw in chopped fully cooked bacon. For a fun twist on these cheeseburger egg rolls, add a little Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce for an umami flavor.
