This baked panko honey mustard chicken is the definition of stress free cooking, especially when all you need is just four ingredients.
Crispy, juicy chicken bakes to a golden perfection coated in a sweet and tangy honey mustard dressing that brings happiness to your tastebuds. No frying, no fuss, just a simple weeknight dinner win.

There are some nights where all I want to do is order dinner in and call it a day. I don't always love spending hours in the kitchen after a long day of work, and I know I'm not alone in this.
For those reasons, I always try to have easy and tasty recipes in my back pocket to rely on instead of overspending on greasy takeout.
Not only is this recipe incredible simple with less than 5 ingredients, but it can be prepped ahead of time and baked 30 minutes before you want to eat. Who doesn't love that?

Recipe at a Glance:
- Cook Level: Quick, approachable, and takes minimal prior knowledge of navigating the kitchen. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can make this recipe well.
- Taste/Flavor: The flavor profile of this recipe is crunchy from the panko bread crumbs, sweet from the honey mustard sauce, and tender from the thin slices of chicken breast.
- Cooking Time: From start to finish, this recipe will take 30 minutes.
- Best Served With: There are virtually so many combinations of meals you could do with this dish. A few of my favorites are pairing with garlic roasted rainbow carrots, garlic sautéed green beans, garlic red bliss mashed potatoes, roasted baby potatoes, creamed corn, or a simple mix greens salad.
Tried and True Tips and Reminders
- I like to use a glass pyrex baking dish for this, but you could also use any type of baking dish. Just be sure to use a nonstick spray at the bottom to help the panko toast and get crispy.
- Flip the chicken halfway through to brown all sides and cook evenly.
- Chicken breasts will dry out easily when baked, so stick to the lower interval of cooking time, then test a piece. If the juices run clear, they're done.
- You can add more flavor to the panko crumbs is to add in some parmesan cheese. This will give even more flavor and crispness when the chicken bakes.

Important Ingredients
- Boneless, Skinless, Chicken Breast: My go to for this recipe as the chicken breasts are easier to bread and bake, and are leaner.
- Panko Bread Crumbs: I like using panko as a breadcrumb mixture because it's crunchier and more flavorful to me.
- Honey Mustard Dressing: I don't know why, but Ken's dressing is a family favorite for this recipe. So that's the honey mustard that I used!
- Italian Seasoning Blend: Adding the Italian seasoning to the panko gives even more flavor when the chicken bakes. It also gives more color.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400° and prepare a glass pyrex dish or an oven safe baking sheet and spray with nonstick spray. Rinse and filet the chicken, or simply use thinly sliced skinless chicken breasts.

Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the Italian seasoning blend with the panko breadcrumbs.

Step 3: Pour the honey mustard dressing into a shallow bowl. Using a pastry brush, brush the chicken breast with the honey mustard dressing, and then cover with the panko. Repeat on both sides, then lay into the baking dish.

Step 4: Once the chicken is completely covered in panko, bake the chicken for 20-22 minutes or until fully cooked through.

Simple Swaps and Substitutions
- You can easily use regular bread crumbs rather than panko, and use boneless skinless chicken thighs for chicken breasts.
- Stick to honey mustard DRESSING, not honey dijon mustard. Sadly, I learned this the hard way when I tried to use dijon mustard instead of the dressing. I do not recommend.
Can I freeze this chicken recipe?
You can add this to the freezer for up to one month. Place in an airtight container or a plastic food storage bag, and be sure to label with what the ingredient is and with the baking temp/time.
Would I be able to make this into chicken fingers?
Definitely! You can buy the chicken tenderloins at the grocery store, and follow the same steps for the full chicken breast in order to make honey mustard chicken tenders.
Can I make this gluten free.
If you want to still use panko for the chicken as a panko crust, but want to make it gluten free, you can swap for a gluten-free panko breading.

Thank you for this easy chicken dish that isn't just grilled chicken or your typical breaded chicken cutlet. I love honey mustard dressing so I immediately defrosted chicken and made this last night. It was oustanding, i also made your spring salad with the blueberries to go with it and wow it was wonderful !
