Your mouth will water the moment you take this salmon out of the oven. This ultra flaky and tender honey glazed salmon, featuring Local Hive Honey's Cali Citrus honey, is packed with flavor, and incredibly easy to make!
One of the foods I absolutely hated eating as a kid was salmon. For literally no reason other than I just did not like the look of it.
Over the years, and learning to explore different foods, I've become quite fond of salmon and its versatility. It's actually one of my son's favorite meals, and this honey glazed salmon featuring Local Hive Honey's Cali Citrus varietal might just be my new favorite way to make it.

Why cook with honey?
Honey is a perfect pairing with salmon. Why? It adds a depth of flavor, gives the food a sweet finish, and it tastes great! I was always very nervous to cook (or bake) with honey, I guess I never fully understood how to incorporate it into recipes, but now that I do, I am confident in making recipes directly centered around honey, such as this honey glazed salmon.
What are the ingredients for this recipe?
This is easily one of the quickest and minimal ingredient recipes you'll ever find. I'm completely serious.
- Salmon: pat dry before adding any sauce to it!
- Coconut aminos: helps to give the salmon flavor and makes it ultra tender. Also, coconut aminos is a great alternative to soy sauce.
- Honey: We use Local Hive Honey's Cali Citrus from their Harvest Reserve gift box. You MUST grab a bottle for yourself here.
- Fresh orange juice: Half a fresh squeezed orange is plenty!
- Cracked pepper: Helps to round out the acidity.
See the recipe card for specific information about quantities.
How do I make this recipe?
Making this recipe takes minimal prep and bake time, which is why I love making this on the weekdays. Make extra for leftovers the next day and you've got a few meals done and dusted!
Preheat the oven to 350º and line a baking sheet with parchment. Take the salmon filets and pat dry. Place them on the baking sheet and set aside.
Add the coconut aminos, orange juice, and honey to a bowl and mix vigorously until the honey is dissolved.
Using a spoon, pour the glaze mixture over the top of both salmon filets. Optional to top the salmon with fresh cracked pepper. Bake the salmon for 17 minutes. Pair with rice and vegetable of choice.
Hint: If you want to marinade the salmon ahead of time in the sauce, you would want to triple the recipe for the sauce, add it to a tupperware with the salmon skin side up. Let sit in the marinade for up to two hours, then place on the baking sheet and add a little more sauce before baking.
Recipe Swaps and Substitutions
If you're looking for ways to switch this recipe up for your individual needs, here are some of the swaps and substitutions I suggest:
- Salmon - instead of using salmon, you can use flounder!
- Seasoning - you can swap out the coconut aminos for regular soy sauce or even a hoisin sauce if you prefer.
- Spicy - add chili pepper flakes to the marinade to give the salmon an added kick of flavor.
Other than the recipe calling for seafood and coconut, this recipe is allergen-friendly as we don't use any gluten or dairy.
Recipe Serving Suggestions
I love serving this salmon with a side of rice and veggies, but here are some other ways you can serve this.
- Potatoes - serving this salmon with some red bliss mashed potatoes would be delicious!
- Pasta - make some egg noodles or lo mein noodles to pair with the salmon.
- Polenta - polenta, or corn grits, is a great comforting side dish that would go very well aside honey salmon.
Kitchen Equipment and Tools
Making this recipe does not require a bunch of different pieces of kitchen equipment. All you really need is:
- One medium mixing bowl - to mix the ingredients for the honey marinade.
- Measuring spoons - if you don't trust yourself when eyeballing seasonings when you add to a recipe.
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
How do I store this recipe?
I don't typically like to save or store cooked salmon as I find that it always gets very fishy quickly. However, you can easily store this in the fridge for up to a day or two in a tightly sealed container.
PRO TIP:
Share something here that you think is key to making this recipe well, such as: Don't overcook the burgers! Sear the outside and cook to a minimum internal temperature, but they should still be juicy for best results.
