Name a better duo than sweet potato fries and a garlic aioli? Yeah, I thought so. These air fryer sweet potato fries get tossed in olive oil, then air fried until crispy, tossed in some salt, and served with a side of homemade garlic aioli. Eat them as a side for dinner, or simply as a snack, either way, you're going to need to double the batch. These are addicting.

I have to admit something. The air fryer used to scare me. I was so nervous to figure out how to use it that I refused to try recipes with it. After several rounds of testing, I've fallen in love and can't stop using it. From charred parmesan broccoli to crispy cheeseburger egg rolls, the air fryer is here to stay.

Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries Tips and Tricks
- Remember to stick to a single layer of sweet potato when frying them. The reason for this is we want each sweet potato to cook evenly and become as crisp on the exterior as possible. If they overlap, this runs the risk of the sweet potatoes not cooking evenly, and also become soggy.
- Season with salt immediately after the sweet potato fries are removed from the air fryer. This helps the salt adhere to the fries quicker.
- Keep the skin on! The skin of a sweet potato has nutrients in it, and also gives a little extra crunch and crisp when air fried. Similar to keeping the skin on in my air fryer zucchini fries.
The Main Ingredients

- Sweet Potato: The main ingredient, providing naturally sweet flavor and a soft center that gets crisp in the air fryer.
- Olive Oil: Helps the sweet potatoes crisp and brown in the air fryer.
- Salt: Enhances the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes.
- Garlic: Adds fresh, savory garlic flavor to the aioli.
- Garlic Powder: Gives the aioli a more concentrated garlic flavor and blends easily into the mayonnaise.
- Mayonnaise: Creates the creamy base for the garlic aioli.
- Lemon Juice: Adds acidity and balances the richness of the mayonnaise.

Simple Sweet Potato Fry Swaps and Substitutions
- You can use a variety of different potatoes including Japanese sweet potatoes, yams, or completely forget the sweet potato and go for the traditional russet potatoes.
- Feel free to add a little pesto to the mayo to make it more of a pesto aioli.
How to make sweet potato fries in air fryer

Step 1: Slice the sweet potatoes into thin strips, shaped like a french fry.

Step 2: Toss the french fries into olive oil, making sure all the french fries are coated with the oil.

Step 3: Prep the air fryer with a single layer of sweet potato fries, then close the drawer (or in this case, top) and air fry for 12-15 minutes or until crispy on all sides. If your air fryer goes by temperature, air fry at 390º.

Step 4: Meanwhile, whisk together mayonnaise, garlic, garlic powder, lemon juice, and salt. Serve aside the sweet potatoes.
Mistakes I've Made (so YOU don't have to!)
- Do NOT overdo it with the oil. Air frying is meant to limit or omit most of the oil used, the only reason we use some oil here is to help the fries get crispy. Using too much oil could make the sweet potatoes get too soggy or not have the most pleasant taste.
- Don't overcrowd the air fryer. Speaking from experience, and regardless of the air fryer you have, you neverrrr want to overcrowd the base or drawer. It won't cook the way you expect it to. Similar to overcrowding a pan when sautéing or roasting, you need to leave room for the air to circulate.

Sweet Potato Fries in Air Fryer FAQs
You can re-crisp in the air fryer for 5-10 minutes, or you can throw them in the oven at 350 for the same amount of time.
Throw some cornstarch on them before air frying to give them a different texture, or sprinkle some red pepper flakes for added heat. Add a touch of chili powder or a little chili crunch oil atop the fries for more flavor.
Store the remaining fries into an air tight container and consume the leftovers within 5 days.
