If you choose the double boiler, I highly recommend using a heat-safe glass bowl. Add the bowl over a small pot of boiling water. Pour the chocolate into the glass bowl and stir while the chocolate melts. Turn the heat low and keep over the water, or remove. For the microwave, be sure to use a microwave safe bowl, then add the chocolate to the bowl.
For the Microwave
If your microwave has a "melt" button, use that setting for 5-6 minutes. otherwise, melt the chocolate in the microwave for 3 minutes at power level 6. Stir, then set the microwave again for another 3 minutes at the same power level. Continue this until all of the chocolate is melted.
Dipping the Berries
Prior to dipping, be sure to rinse the strawberries, patting them with a paper towel to dry.
Using a fork, a skewer, or even small tongs, hold the strawberry and dip directly into the chocolate, ¾ of the way through as to leave some of the berry flesh exposed at the ton near the green leaves.
Lay on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Repeat this for all the strawberries, and any other food you want dipped. Place in the fridge in order to let the chocolate firm up.
If you want to get fancy, add a little white chocolate drizzle (or milk chocolate) to the tops of the strawberries, some sprinkles, or crushed nuts.
